Training for Health Professionals

The Parent-Infant Research Institute at Austin Health is committed to providing quality accessible clinical treatment for families with young children experiencing difficulties. PIRI is involved in cutting edge clinical research, service provision and has increasingly been involved in the dissemination of information and training for other health professionals involved in the pathway of care for these families.

We are proud to be able to offer this year a seminar program. All topics will be available from Austin Health or if there are sufficient numbers training can be provided to you at your work place. Specific topics of interest can also be accommodated by arrangement.

As part of the DHS initiative we offer Maternal & Child Health Nurses training in the North Eastern and Hume regions. The topics available are listed in the Maternal and Child Health Nurse Training Cycle.

PIRI has been very actively involved in providing training to Maternal & Child Health Nurses, Midwives, General Practitioners, Psychologists and other health professionals.

We have an ongoing committment to provide clinical placement for doctoral and masters psychology students from LaTrobe University, Swinburne, Australian Catholic University, Melbourne University and RMIT.

We have also had a number of international medical students compete their AMS year with us. Their projects have included:
Melissa Tang - Single Mothers.
Ditta Hadisubrata - Risk screening for high risk families of infants.
