Dr Alan Gemmill is Deputy Director of Research at the Parent-Infant Research Institute (PIRI), with expertise spanning reproductive biology, psychology and biomedical statistics.

His research has examined reproductive ecology through an evolutionary framework, including experimental tests of theoretical predictions. More recently, his work has extended to the genetics of malaria parasites and mother–infant mental health.

At PIRI, Alan contributes to the design and evaluation of interventions for antenatal and postnatal depression, and oversees research studies, clinical trials and public health initiatives.
